The choices, with a recommendation

Free zone or mainland, audit or not, accountant or bookkeeper, in-house or outsourced — each answered with a recommendation first and the reasoning behind it.

4 guides
The recurring decisions
Recommendation
First, not buried
No hedging
Including when the answer is 'it depends'

Straight answers to the choices UAE business owners actually have to make — each leading with the recommendation, then setting out what drives it.

Choose mainland if you need to sell freely to customers inside the UAE.

Probably.

A bookkeeper records transactions accurately.

Outsource while a full-time finance hire would not be fully occupied, or where you need technical depth more than daily presence.

Why these four keep coming up

They share a shape: each one gets decided early, often on the wrong basis, and then quietly costs money for years. A free zone licence chosen for its setup price can put the 0% Corporate Tax rate out of reach once you start selling onshore. An audit assumed unnecessary stalls a licence renewal. A cheap bookkeeper with no accountant behind them produces tidy records and a wrong return. And a full-time finance hire made a year too early is a salary, a visa, insurance and a gratuity accrual for work that does not yet fill a role.

None of them are close calls once the facts are on the table. What makes them hard is that the facts are usually specific to your business — your customer mix, your licence, your contracts, your volume — and general advice cannot know them.

How to use these

Each guide leads with the recommendation rather than burying it, then sets out what would change the answer. Read the recommendation, check whether the conditions underneath it describe you, and if they do not, that is exactly the conversation worth having. We would rather tell you that the obvious answer is wrong for your situation than have you find out at a licence renewal.

Facing a decision not listed here?

Most of them come down to facts about your business that a guide cannot know. Twenty minutes usually settles it.
